Her research interests centre on understanding the ecology and evolution of host-symbiont interactions in animals. Much of her current work uses wild rodents and their symbionts as model systems, her group studies both what shapes the microbiome in natural settings but also how it impacts the host. They do this by combining field studies, experiments, computational and comparative approaches.
